In Spanish I & II, my students are introduced to not only another language but also to another
culture that is fast becoming a major influence in the United
States. Learning another language has been shown, scientifically, to raise standardized
test scores in all areas of study, not just in the target language or in English. However,
many students do find their grades in their English classes do improve due to the additional study
of language grammar rules. While learning another language isn't easy, it is a very fulfilling thing to start down the road
to becoming bilingual.
Art is
another subject where it has been shown to increased test scores. Sparking creativity expands the
brain which opens up areas such as confidence and knowledge of one’s own ability that the student might not have realized
before. Although there are those special individuals that were "born" with artistic ability, art is basically learned.
Any student who puts forth effort in my classroom will see the results.
I have
been the yearbook adviser for the previous 5 years and this class will allow my students to have ample class time to
learn the programs and processes for yearbook and publishing design and layout.
